Let's go Jamaica... Olympic Spirit!

Learner:  Darius                    Learning Coach: T Morgan        Date: 28th July 2016
Learning Area: iExplore
Learning Observed
After finding out that our Hapu group was representing Jamaica, Darius got curious about Jamaica’s flag. In iExperience we drew our own Jamaican flags. The following morning in iExplore, Darius had created his own Jamaican flag out of Lego and he was super proud to show us! It was a pleasure to see a new creation.
Evidence of learning

Darius showed us how he can create many things from Lego, even the Jamaican flag! I wonder if he could build any olympic equipment or athletes?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Darius is developing his Capabilities in stretching his mind when building with lego, unifix cubes and mobilo. He was able to use his Curiosity for the country our hapu was representing to drive him to create a flag out of unifix cubes. Darius remembered how the flag looked from the previous afternoon and independently recreated it (Managing Self). Darius worked around the other learners who were also using the blocks and was happy to share the blocks and move to make space for others to fit in (Relating to Others).
Next Learning Steps
  • Find out how many medals the Jamaicans win in the Olympics.
  • Find out how many athletes from Jamaica are competing in the Olympics.
  • Write about his curiosity around the Jamaican country and Olympic team.
  • Share learning with home.
