Narrative Assessment - 23 March 2016 - iExplore

Learner:  Darius              Learning Coach:  Megan Croll              Date: 23 March 2016
Learning Area: iExplore
Learning Observed
Today during iExplore, Darius chose to join in with a group of Learners to search for minibeasts that live outside our Learning Habitat.   Darius was reminded to move carefully amongst the plants and to respect the places where the minibeasts were living.  He was given a magnifying glass to closely observe any insects and spiders.
Evidence of learning

Darius was excited to find some spiders, slaters and ladybirds in our garden.   With some support, he was able to describe the features of these minibeasts and enjoyed taking a closer look at how the insects were moving.   At times Darius needed to be reminded about carefully moving objects so that he didn’t hurt the minibeasts and to not scream when he saw a spider.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Darius demonstrated Curiosity when exploring for minibeasts.   He Connected with both nature and his peers during this iExplore session.   Darius explored alongside others and was excited when he, or others found any minibeasts (Relating to Others).  He tried his best to not trample on the plants and handled the magnifying glass carefully (Managing Self).
Next Learning Steps
  • Consider why minibeasts choose to live in certain places
  • Respect plants when moving through and around our garden
  • Put equipment away when finished with it
